A puppy, abandoned by its owner, was rescued by a firefighter and taken to a shelter for care. In a recent incident, a building complex in Santa Monica became engulfed in flames. Upon their arrival, firefighters discovered an unconscious dog named Nalu, struggling to breathe amidst the heat and smoke.
Firefighter Andrew Klein shared with KABC, "I encountered him amidst the intense heat and smoke. When I reached out, I realized he had already passed away," the spokesperson recounted.
Before placing the puppy in an oxygen mask, Klein administered "mouth-to-snout" CPR, dedicating almost 20 minutes to the life-saving effort. Miraculously, the dog began breathing on its own again, regaining consciousness and displaying movement. Subsequently, concerned neighbors came to Nalu's aid, transporting him to a nearby animal hospital.
Nalu, a mix of Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu, sadly couldn't be rescued when owner Crystal Lamirande returned to find her apartment in flames. KABC reported that despite Lamirande's devastating loss in the fire, she formed a newfound connection with her local fire department.
"That was truly gratifying," expressed Klein to KTLA. "I've participated in several animal rescues that didn't culminate as successfully as Nalu's story did. I've been part of numerous similar animal rescue operations."
Undoubtedly, Nalu's recovery marked a triumph not only for the fire department but also for the entire community, emphasized the team members. Within ten minutes, the firefighters managed to quell the blaze, ensuring no injuries were sustained.
